After living abroad in Barcelona, Spain, for a year, I returned home searching for a sense of belonging, purpose, and larger cultural identity in the expanse of vapid, pristine cul-de-sacs of my hometown. Feeling a distinct emptiness in that space, I looked to my ancestry and developed a fascination with my great-grandparents' immigration from Italy, their establishment of a family farm operated by their twelve children, and the enormous ever-expanding lineage of which I am a part.
